The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda's Faculty of Performing Arts marked a significant milestone with its department of dance's 75th anniversary. An international seminar, "Ancient and Modern Literature in Performing and Visual Arts and Its Practices," commenced on Friday, celebrating this diamond jubilee. The two-day event convened 200 scholars, performers, and academicians to delve into the interplay between literary heritage and artistic execution.
Esteemed personalities graced the occasion, with Padma Shri awardee Puru Dadheech as the chief guest and renowned Kathak exponent Shovana Narayan delivering the keynote address. Both emphasized the enduring legacy of literature in shaping Indian performing and visual arts. The seminar featured insights from resource persons like violinist Sangeeta Shankar and harmonium exponent Keshav Chaitanya Kunte.
Participants included scholars from across India and delegates from countries such as Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mauritius, and Nepal, who presented their research. The inaugural day concluded with captivating performances by the department's students, showcasing their talents under the guidance of their mentors.
