After a hiatus, "Mystery Science Theater 3000" has returned with a new iteration, "Mystery Science Theater 3000: The RiffTrax Experiments." This revival sees the original RiffTrax team, comprising Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett, rejoining forces with the show after a two-decade absence. Their collaboration was made possible after Joel Hodgson sold his ownership stake in the series in January 2026.
Fans enthusiastically supported this reunion, raising an impressive $2.7 million through a Kickstarter campaign to fund the new episodes. The production returned to Minneapolis, filming at the Cinequipt production facility, bringing back many original crew members who share a strong bond.
"MST3K" veterans Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff also return as the Mads, a reunion that felt "natural" and like "they hadn't left." The show continues its legacy of family involvement, with children of crew members contributing to the production, echoing the series' decades-long appeal across generations.
The new episodes feature the show's signature silhouette riffing style. Three of the four movies being riffed on have been revealed as "Sting of Death," "Space Raiders," and "Deathsport." The production process involves precise, timed joke delivery, highlighting the meticulous craft behind the comedic riffs.
