Liam Gallagher, Paul Weller Mourn Mani at Cathedral Service

Manchester Cathedral was filled with hundreds of mourners, including Liam Gallagher and Paul Weller, for the funeral of Gary "Mani" Mounfield, the revered bassist of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream. He passed away on November 20th, aged 63. His coffin, a replica of the iconic first Stone Roses album cover, was carried by prominent musicians, including Ian Brown, Bobby Gillespie, and his Stone Roses bandmates.

During the service, Ian Brown delivered a heartfelt tribute, calling Mounfield a "brother," "dream friend," and "true musical comrade." He emphasized Mounfield's joyful spirit and lifelong passions, including family, fishing, football, and music. Brown shared that Mounfield lived a fulfilled life, uplifting others with his bass guitar skills and that "everyone loves him."

Bobby Gillespie also shared memories of Mounfield's time with Primal Scream, describing him as a "funky little mother, with a rock'and'roll heart." He fondly recalled Mounfield's stage presence and his impact on the band and their lives. Gillespie also paid tribute to Mounfield's late wife, Imelda, whom he described as his "rock." Mounfield had recently announced a UK speaking tour scheduled from September 2026 to June 2027.
