- The author's attorney disputes the family's claims, citing contractual agreements.

The recently published biography "It's No Wonder: The Life and Times of Motown's Legendary Songwriter Sylvia Moy" by Margena A. Christian has led to a dispute with the estate of Sylvia Moy. Moy, a Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee who died in 2017, was instrumental in Motown's success, co-writing hits for Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.
According to Moy's family, they entered into an agreement with Christian in 2023, which included participation and compensation for their assistance. However, they claim Christian reneged on this deal, failed to notify them about the publishing agreement, and did not allow manuscript review.
The family feels betrayed, stating they provided unique access and materials. They are seeking resolution without legal action but are prepared to go to court if necessary. The family is currently not supporting or promoting the book due to the unresolved issues.
Christian's attorney asserts that the family's claims are baseless and that all contractual matters were handled by her attorney and the publishing house. He noted that the family received over $2,200 for photo usage, and further compensation was contingent on sales. The attorney stated Christian's focus remains on highlighting Moy's accomplishments.
