Asian Shadows has acquired international sales rights for Eddie Cahyono's film "Ibuku," selected for the Busan International Film Festival's Competition. The drama centers on Sumiati, a widow in her sixties, whose daughter Sri is in Saudi Arabia facing execution.
Sri had left her Javanese village to escape hardship and an abusive marriage, but now faces capital punishment for the killing of a man who attempted to abuse her. Sumiati, aided by her village chief, desperately seeks funds to visit her daughter before her scheduled execution.
