25 Jan
Summary
- Former star Jaci Stephen praised two fan favorites on the show.
- Stephen critiqued Alison Hammond's interviewing skills directly.
- She also commended Gyles Brandreth and successor Sharon Marshall.

Jaci Stephen, a former seven-year contributor to This Morning, has recently offered her perspective on several of the show's current stars. Stephen, who previously served as the program's soap and film critic, shared her evaluations in a recent publication.
She described Gyles Brandreth as a "joy" and commended his "intelligence, quick wit, charm and all-round brilliance." Additionally, Stephen praised Sharon Marshall, her successor as the show's Soaps Expert since 2003, calling her "terrific" and a "fine writer." Stephen noted her initial concerns about Marshall's dual role were unfounded.
However, Stephen was critical of Alison Hammond, who has been a Friday co-presenter since 2021. Stephen stated, "I like Alison Hammond, but she is no interviewer, and the idea that she is needs to be knocked on the head with a very large mallet." Hammond has been with This Morning since 2002, initially as a reporter.
Stephen also reflected on her time working with original presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, whom she described as "consummate professionals" and "sharp journalists" with a "populist Midas touch." She noted that the show's continued attempts to replicate their success have consistently failed.
Meanwhile, Alison Hammond is reportedly in discussions with BBC bosses for a potential appearance on the next series of The Celebrity Traitors, with sources suggesting she could be "comedy gold."
