The critically acclaimed film Moonlight, which surprisingly won Best Picture at the 2017 Oscars, is set for a tenth-anniversary re-release. A24 will present a new 4K remastered cut of the film on October 2. Director Barry Jenkins revealed this exciting news during a special screening at the Telluride Film Festival.
Moonlight, a coming-of-age drama, chronicles the life of a young African-American man navigating his identity and sexuality through various life stages. The anniversary re-release promises an exclusive conversation featuring director Barry Jenkins, Oscar-nominated composer Nicholas Britell, and Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali, adding significant value for fans.
The film, which premiered in 2016, garnered significant accolades, including the Best Picture Oscar, Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Its Best Picture win at the 2017 Academy Awards was famously overshadowed by an envelope mix-up that initially declared La La Land the winner, a moment of live television drama that concluded with the correction on stage.
Tickets for this special re-release will be available starting September 9, with a limited edition anniversary art print also on offer. Moonlight achieved considerable box office success, earning $27.8 million domestically and nearly $67 million worldwide.
