In the lead-up to the American Film Market in Los Angeles next month, the CGI animated feature "Monster Mia" has already attracted buyers in several territories, including Poland, Greece, Bulgaria, Mongolia, and the former Yugoslavia. The film, with a production budget of €9 million ($10.4 million), is set to have a theatrical release in Germany for the Halloween season in October 2026.
"Monster Mia" follows the story of Mia, a human student who is expelled from school and sent to the mysterious Rotwood Academy, where she is the only human among a class full of monsters. With the principal, Van Vlad, harboring a deep dislike for humans, Mia must join forces with her monstrous classmates to stop his sinister plans before it's too late.
The production is led by a collaboration of animation studios, including Austria-based Arx Anima, Germany's Peng! Boom! Tschak! - Films, and Spain's Arxlight Pictures. Arx Anima's recent credits include co-producing the animated feature "Rabbit Academy" and the hit series "Talking Tom and Friends," while M.A.R.K. 13, the studio behind Peng! Boom! Tschak! - Films, brings two decades of industry expertise to the project.
