Monster of Florence: New Netflix Series Unearths Dark Secrets

Director Stefano Sollima is bringing the infamous "Monster of Florence" case to life with a new installment of his Netflix anthology series. The series focuses on Pietro Pacciani, a farm laborer dubbed "The Monster of Florence," who was suspected of eight double murders of couples parked in cars between the late 1960s and mid-1980s.

This latest chapter shifts focus to Pacciani and his alleged associates, known as the "Snack Buddies." Sollima is meticulously reconstructing Pacciani's real home in Mercatale Val di Pesa and filmed trial scenes in the actual courtroom where Pacciani's 1994 trial occurred. Pacciani was initially convicted but later acquitted after evidence was overturned.

The case, which gripped Italy with terror, remains legally unresolved. Sollima emphasizes that the narrative structure is more linear in this segment, spanning from 1951 to 1996, but acknowledges the complexity and ongoing debate surrounding Pacciani's guilt.

The series aims to immerse viewers in the investigators' perspectives, carefully balancing historical accuracy with cinematic storytelling.
