Derby is preparing to host 'Ride the Mod Wave,' a free event celebrating Mod culture on August 15. This event marks the first of its kind for Derby, aiming to draw enthusiasts of the Mod era.
In addition to the impressive scooter exhibition, the celebration includes live musical performances and DJs spinning tunes at the Market Hall from the afternoon into the evening. Visitors can also browse stalls offering vintage clothing and records, and participate in free crafting sessions. A special screening of the renowned 1979 British film 'Quadrophenia' is also scheduled, adding to the authentic Mod experience.
Organized by Derby's Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts, the event aims to capture the spirit of the Mod subculture. This youth movement, originating in London jazz clubs in the 1950s, gained national prominence in the 1960s, with scooters serving as its quintessential mode of transport. Organizers expressed excitement about showcasing the scooters and the vibrant culture they represent.
