Helen Mirren & Pierce Brosnan Embrace Gothic Mayhem in MobLand

Paramount+'s 'MobLand' plunges viewers back into the intricate criminal underworld with its 10-episode second season, which began streaming on September 18th. The series, executive produced by Guy Ritchie, delves into the lives of the Harrigan family, led by the volatile Conrad, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan, and his cunning wife Maeve, played by Helen Mirren.

Mirren and Brosnan embrace their complex characters, offering a departure from their more traditionally stately roles. Mirren described their on-screen relationship as "like an old married couple" who also commit "murder and mayhem." Brosnan highlighted the rich historical context woven into the narrative by writer Jez Butterworth, drawing parallels to Ireland's tumultuous past.

The first season set the stage for the Harrigan family's fracturing and subsequent pursuit. This season continues to explore their internal conflicts and short-sightedness, even as they consolidate power. Tom Hardy returns as the family fixer, Harry Da Souza, navigating intimidation, murder, and a delicate balance of loyalty amidst crumbling personal relationships.

The series is powered by its lead actors but bolstered by a superb ensemble cast, crisp writing, and a setup for an intriguing and violent continuation. Viewers can expect weekly episodes on Fridays, promising more of the dark, explosive drama that defines Ritchie's exploration of the British criminal element.
