During an appearance on a podcast, Gilligan recounted taking his son, Rudi, for his first haircut. He recalled his own childhood memories of barbershops and found it emotional to share that experience with his son, who is now two years old. He noted how his son looked to him as his universe during the haircut.

Gilligan also fathered a son named Rudi with ex-partner Selina Christoforou. Selina had publicly stated that Mo showed little interest in their child during the first year of his life. Mo later addressed these comments during a stand-up performance, acknowledging Selina as a good mother and expressing his love for his son.
