Confetti Flies: New Miss America Crowned This Weekend

The highly anticipated Miss America 2027 pageant concludes this Sunday, September 6, with the crowning of the new queen at the Palm Beach Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. The event marks the end of a week-long competition that has featured preliminary events and showcases.

A total of 52 women are competing for the national title. This impressive lineup includes representatives from all 50 states, as well as Miss Puerto Rico and Miss D.C. Among the contestants is Ruby Tilghman, representing Alabama.

Tilghman, a graduate of the University of Alabama with a background in chemistry and a focus on social innovation, plans to pursue further medical studies. Her community service initiative, "57 Miles: Answering the Needs of Your Community," highlights her dedication to social impact.

Alabama has a proud history in the Miss America pageant, having produced four winners: Yolande Betbeze (1950), Heather Whitestone (1994), Deidre Downs (2004), and Abbie Stockard (2025). The newly crowned Miss America 2027 will receive a $50,000 scholarship and embark on a year of service.

Additional scholarships ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 will also be awarded to other deserving contestants during the event, underscoring the pageant's commitment to supporting educational pursuits.
