Director Gurmeet Singh discussed the casting decision for Mirzapur: The Movie, explaining why Jitendra Kumar took over the role of Bablu Pandit from Vikrant Massey. Singh highlighted that having choices as creators is essential for artistic expression. The director stated that Kumar's casting brought a new energy to the film, allowing it to develop its own identity separate from the popular series.
This reimagining of Bablu Pandit proved beneficial, giving the character significantly more agency and a pivotal role in driving the film's narrative. Unlike his portrayal in the series, where he seemed to aid his brother and lacked an agenda, the movie's Bablu is actively playing the game.
