Summary
- A new documentary captures Miriam Margolyes' life over two years.
- The film was shot entirely on director Simon Draper's phone.
- The project evolved from a podcast idea into a feature film.

A new one-off documentary, Miriam Margolyes Made Me Me, is set to air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer in the spring. This film offers an intimate look at the career renaissance of the beloved British star. BAFTA-winning director Simon Draper captured Margolyes over a two-year period, utilizing only his mobile phone for the entire production.
The documentary originated from an idea for a podcast, intended to capture Margolyes' candid reflections on her life and career. However, as Draper became a de facto sidekick, filming her experiences, the project evolved into a full-fledged documentary, exploring their unique friendship.
Despite the initial concept of the podcast being Margolyes' "final act," her surging popularity at 82 led to numerous engagements. These included a book tour in Australia and efforts to reunite with old friends, all of which were documented. This vibrancy and her "bonkers" lifestyle were chronicled by Draper.
Rex TV joined the project as it transitioned from a podcast to a documentary film. The production company aimed to create content with "heart and humor," recognizing the rare, moving, and hilariously funny nature of what Draper captured. The film will be distributed internationally by Zinc Distribution.
