Cameras are set to roll on the television adaptation of Kaliane Bradley's popular novel, 'The Ministry of Time.' This project, announced two years ago, is now confirmed to be moving forward, with filming scheduled to begin later this year. The show is being developed by the BBC and A24, with Alice Birch, known for her work on 'Normal People,' penning the script.
The novel's premise revolves around a new government department tasked with experimenting with time travel by gathering individuals, referred to as 'expats,' from various historical periods. These rescued figures include an officer from Sir John Franklin's ill-fated 1845 Arctic expedition and a soldier from the First World War's Somme battlefields.
This adaptation was initially revealed as part of a larger slate of shows in 2024. The BBC's drama boss secured the rights to the book before its publication, recognizing its unique potential to explore contemporary themes in a fresh and vibrant manner. Jo McClellan is also attached as an executive producer alongside Birch.
