Academy Award winner Tom Hooper is set to direct the feature adaptation of Millie Bobby Brown's New York Times bestselling novel, "Nineteen Steps," for Netflix. Anthony McCarten is adapting the screenplay for the film, which is currently in development. Brown, Jake Bongiovi, and Bobby Brown are producing.
Published in September 2023, "Nineteen Steps" is a WWII novel inspired by Brown's grandmother. It tells the story of Nellie Morris, who navigates wartime life, bombings, and a romance with an American airman in Bethnal Green, East London. The narrative also incorporates the historical Bethnal Green Tube disaster of 1943, where 173 people died.
Hooper is acclaimed for directing "The King's Speech," "Les Misérables," and "The Danish Girl." His recent work includes directing "Photograph 51" with Natalie Portman. Brown's other upcoming projects include "Enola Holmes 3" and "Just Picture It" for Netflix.
