Mike Patton, known for his work with Faith No More, made his debut at the Palacio de Bellas Artes on October 1st, performing Juan Gabriel's iconic song "Hasta Que Te Conocí." This marked the first time the song had been heard at the venue since Juan Gabriel's own performance there 13 years prior.
The performance was a highlight of Patton's "Mondo Cane" show, a project that reimagines classic Italian pop from the '50s and '60s with orchestral backing. For this segment, Patton collaborated with the Mexican mariachi ensemble Gama Mil, bringing a unique fusion of styles.
His tribute to Mexico extended to other beloved folk songs, including a haunting rendition of Oaxaca's "La Llorona" and Álvaro Carrillo's "Luz de Luna." Patton, who has deep ties to Mexico due to his California upbringing, expressed profound emotion about his experience, calling it a "dream."
This concert preceded the opening of the International Cervantino Festival, for which Patton was scheduled to bring his "Mondo Cane" experience to Guanajuato. The festival was set to run from October 3rd to October 18th.
