Filmmaker Mike Flanagan, known for his work on 'The Haunting of Hill House,' is taking on Stephen King's 1980 novella, 'The Mist.' He is slated to write and direct a new adaptation for Warner Bros. This project continues Flanagan's successful track record with King's works and the studio.
Previously, Flanagan directed 'Doctor Sleep,' a sequel to 'The Shining' and an adaptation of King's 2013 novel. His Batman villain script, 'Clayface,' is also set for a Halloween release. He previously adapted King's 'Gerald's Game' in 2017.
Flanagan is also developing a streaming series adaptation of 'Carrie' for Prime Video and is working on 'The Dark Tower' streaming series, also for Prime Video. His recent film, 'The Life of Chuck,' earned an award at the Toronto Film Festival in 2024.
'The Mist' has been adapted before, including a 1986 radio drama, a video game, a 1986 film by Frank Darabont, and a short-lived Spike TV series. Flanagan's involvement signals a potentially fresh take on the source material.
