Microdrama platforms FlareFlow and Shorts have announced a significant collaboration to expand the reach of vertical video content. The Singapore-based FlareFlow, owned by COL Group, and the France-based Shorts will co-produce a slate of four new microdramas.
This partnership is designed to broaden the landscape of microdrama by exploring diverse genres, including fantasy, action, supernatural, and revenge themes. The companies aim to move vertical entertainment beyond its traditionally dominant story formulas, focusing on heightened genre concepts and richer world-building.
The new slate will begin its rollout weekly from Friday, August 21. This initiative marks Shorts' first multi-project co-production, signaling an ambition to develop original intellectual property within the microdrama space. Both platforms are committed to enhancing storytelling quality and production value.
Timothy Oh of COL Group/FlareFlow stated that vertical drama is entering a new phase, offering opportunities to tell different stories and reach new audiences. AJ Letterel from Shorts' parent company, Luni, emphasized that vertical microdrama is a unique format, not merely a smaller version of older content, with great potential when treated with ambition.
