Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh headlines Sean Baker's new short film, "Sandiwara," portraying all five characters. The film, Baker's follow-up to his Oscar-winning "Anora," premiered at the Berlinale and recently had a stateside debut in Hollywood.
Filmed in a rapid "running-gun" style over two days in Penang, Malaysia, the project is described as a love letter to the local food culture. Director Baker expressed his delight in working with Yeoh on this "crazy, guerrilla indie project."
Yeoh humorously recounted being initially told there would be three characters, only to discover she would play five. She praised Baker as a genius and called the two-day shoot a "masterclass," comparing the experience to her Oscar-winning role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once."
