Instead of asking Lee directly, Sinatra enlisted Ed McMahon to deliver his invitation for a date to the ballpark. However, Lee, who was married to actor James Farentino at the time, politely declined the offer, stating her prior commitment.
Lee and Farentino, who shared a son, David, divorced in 1983. Farentino went on to marry Debrah Farentino and later dated Tina Sinatra before his fourth marriage to Stella Farentino until his death in 2012. Lee later married Fred A. Rappoport in 1987, though she admitted a deep, lasting bond with Farentino.
