Michael Stipe Sings for Steve Carell's New HBO Show

Michael Stipe, the iconic voice of R.E.M., has returned with a new song, 'I Played the Fool,' created in collaboration with producer Andrew Watt. This track serves as the main title theme for the HBO comedy series Rooster, which features Steve Carell in a starring role.

The song was specifically written for Rooster, a show created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses. Tarses revealed that securing Stipe was initially considered a long shot, but Watt successfully brought the collaboration to fruition. The recorded version of 'I Played the Fool' showcases additional musical talents, including Josh Klinghoffer on piano and guitar, and Travis Barker on drums.

Watt expressed his admiration for Stipe, calling him a hero and a true great songwriter. He believes Stipe's contribution perfectly sets the tone for Rooster, evoking both laughter and tears with its memorable television theme. Rooster premiered on HBO in March and also features actors like Charly Clive and Danielle Deadwyler.
