Actor Michael Johnston has signed with Gersh, marking a significant career development following the box office success of the indie film 'Obsession.' The deal occurred amidst a competitive environment for the rising star.
'Obsession,' which garnered significant attention after its acquisition at the Toronto International Film Festival, has achieved remarkable financial success for Focus Features. It has become the distributor's top-grossing film globally and domestically, amassing $234.5 million.
Prior to his starring role in 'Obsession,' Johnston had a less prominent career with credits including 'Teen Wolf' and the indie feature 'Slash.' His casting as the film's protagonist, Bear, came after the filmmaker sought an actor who could convey a complex emotional arc.
The film's unexpected trajectory saw it achieve box office milestones not seen since 1982's 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial,' with its second and third weekends outperforming its opening weekend. Johnston continues to be represented by Tash Moseley Management, Atlas Talent Agency for voiceover, imPRint, and Johnson Shapiro.
