It features rare intimate archive footage and interviews with individuals close to Michael Jackson, such as his sister La Toya Jackson and former lawyer Brian Oxman. The documentary aims to go beyond the music to tell his full story.
Commissioned by the BBC and titled 'Michael Jackson: An American Tragedy' for its UK premiere on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, the series examines his rise from the 1960s, the controversies of his later years, and his billion-dollar estate. It addresses longstanding allegations of child sexual abuse, which he denied.
Mark Reynolds, Fremantle's global head of documentaries, expressed excitement about partnering with global broadcasters for this complex tale of fame, family, and legacy. The series is directed by Sophie Fuller.
