- Meryl Streep has never attended the Met Gala in previous years.
- The 2026 Met Gala theme is 'Fashion Is Art' for the 'Costume Art' exhibition.
- Streep recently immersed herself in fashion while filming Devil Wears Prada 2.

Meryl Streep will not be in attendance at the 2026 Met Gala on May 4th in New York City, despite her recent involvement in "The Devil Wears Prada 2." Her representative confirmed that while invited for many years, Streep has never attended the event, finding it not quite her scene.
The 2026 Met Gala's theme is "Fashion Is Art," aligning with the Metropolitan Museum of Art's spring exhibition, "Costume Art." This exhibition marks a significant milestone, inaugurating the Costume Institute's first permanent galleries. Curator Andrew Bolton noted that the dressed body is the central theme connecting all galleries within the museum.
Previously, Streep was slated to co-chair the 2020 Met Gala exhibition, "About Time: Fashion and Duration." However, that event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her recent engagement with the fashion world, including attending Milan Fashion Week while filming the "Devil Wears Prada" sequel, has been notable. She shared her excitement about experiencing a fashion show, describing it as "theatrical."
