Kody Brown's Divorce 'Worked Very Well in His Favor'

Meri Brown has shared her perspective on her 2014 legal divorce from Kody Brown, explaining it was initiated with the intention of facilitating Kody's adoption of Robyn Brown's children. Meri believed this action was for the overall good of the family. However, she now feels that this decision primarily benefited Kody. Meri stated on the Nov. 1 episode that the divorce paved the way for Kody to legally marry Robyn and adopt her children, making the adoption process easier.

Despite her initial intentions, Meri expressed that Kody was only kind to her for about a month following the divorce. She felt she deserved more gratitude for enabling his monogamous lifestyle, especially as his other plural marriages to Janelle and Christine later dissolved. Meri acknowledged that by 2022, Robyn was effectively his sole wife, both legally and in practice.

Both Christine and Janelle Brown have shared their recollections of the events leading up to Meri's divorce. Christine stated that she remembers Robyn suggesting the idea of a legal divorce in conversations prior to the actual event. Janelle also expressed a belief that there was more to the situation than initially presented, suggesting Kody and Robyn may have desired this direction.

Christine further recalled a conversation in Meri's living room where Robyn discussed the beauty of a first wife divorcing to allow her husband to marry another wife with children. Christine found this suggestion unusual at the time and was surprised when Meri later claimed the idea originated with her. Christine believed the divorce was a mistake that marked the beginning of the end for their plural family structure.
