Brillante Ma Mendoza is set to direct "Aid," a political drama examining the complexities of international humanitarian efforts. The film will feature Judy Ann Santos as Ruby Dela Cruz, a dedicated NGO worker protecting Indigenous Aeta children, and Stacy Martin as Angelique Dumont, a European executive overseeing aid operations.
The narrative probes the inefficiencies and systemic issues within aid organizations, questioning whether good intentions can be compromised by larger structures. Jeanne Balibar also joins the principal cast, adding further depth to the ensemble.
"Aid" is slated for production starting in October and will be filmed on location in a Pampanga Aeta village. This project is significant as one of the initial features to emerge from a bilateral co-production agreement between France and the Philippines signed in Cannes last year.
