Grantchester Star's Brave Birth Journey

Grantchester actress Melissa Johns, 35, and her husband Dan Hampton have joyfully introduced their newborn daughter, Ottilly. The baby's arrival at 37 weeks was a surprise, prompted by medical advice regarding growth concerns. Johns described the frightening moment she was told the baby's growth had plateaued, with doctors advising an early delivery due to potential fatal risks.

Despite the unexpected early birth via C-section, weighing 5lb 10oz, Johns described the experience as magical. The family spent five days in the hospital, where staff supported Johns, who was born without her right forearm and hand, in breastfeeding. She highlighted the significant challenges she faces with a newborn due to her disability and back pain, emphasizing the crucial support from her husband.

Johns, also a disability activist, shared her intention to create a network for disabled parents to share resources and advocate for more accessible products. She revealed that her daughter was initially named Vera Violet, but they ultimately chose Ottilly, a name she’d remembered from years prior. The couple expressed their hope to have another child in the future.
