Corrie Star's Brave Birth: 'Fatal Risk' at 36 Weeks

Coronation Street star Melissa Johns recently welcomed her first child, a daughter named Ottilly, with husband Dan Hampton. The couple initially considered the name Vera Violet but ultimately chose Ottilly. Their pregnancy journey faced a critical moment during a 36-week scan when they were informed that the baby's growth had plateaued, posing a fatal risk if they waited until 40 weeks.

Healthcare professionals advised an immediate delivery at 37 weeks, causing initial panic for Johns, who felt she still had considerable time left. Despite the unexpected early birth via cesarean section, weighing 5lb 10oz, Johns described the experience as enchanting, with Dan by her side. The family spent five days in the hospital, receiving support, particularly in adapting to breastfeeding with Johns's disability.

Johns, who was born without a right forearm and hand, also spoke out against those who limited her dream of motherhood due to her disability. She expressed feeling empowered by pregnancy and carrying a child, defying the notion that her body restricted her life choices. The actress shared her joy on Instagram, announcing her baby girl's arrival with heartfelt captions.
