Siddharth P. Malhotra's ambitious period biopic, "Kamal Aur Meena," is set to explore the significant relationship between the iconic actress Meena Kumari and filmmaker Kamal Amrohi. Malhotra has confirmed that the principal cast for the film has been finalized, with the chosen actors having agreed to participate in the project.
Securing established stars was deemed crucial by Malhotra, given the grand scale and sensitive subject matter of the film. "If you don't get stars, you won't be able to mount the film," he stated, underscoring the importance of star power for such a production.
The director highlighted that the film requires a substantial budget, citing the need for elaborate sets reminiscent of "Pakeezah" and "Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam," as well as securing the rights to songs. This indicates a large-scale production is anticipated.
While rumors have linked Kiara Advani to the role of Meena Kumari, the director has kept the identities of the lead actors under wraps. The film, produced by Bilal Amrohi, aims to revisit a pivotal chapter in the life of one of Hindi cinema's most celebrated performers.
