Two significant 15th-century rings were unearthed by metal detectorist Andrew Riley in North Yorkshire. Riley discovered the medieval artifacts on a farm near Northallerton after obtaining permission from the new landowner, who is also a detectorist. One ring has been identified as the 'blood of Christ' ring, while the other is an iconographic ring of St Margaret of Antioch.
The two rings are anticipated to command a price exceeding £10,000 when they go under the hammer next week. Riley, who has been metal detecting since the 1990s, described his shock at the find, stating he had to "lie down" after uncovering the treasures. He intends to divide any auction proceeds with the farmer whose land yielded the discovery.
