A collection of 21 silver pennies, known as sceattas and dating between the mid-seventh and eighth centuries, will be displayed after a successful community fundraising initiative. Discovered by a metal detector user in 2018, the hoard's fate was secured through the efforts of Stoke Row residents and the Oxfordshire Museum. The valuable coins are now under the care of Oxfordshire County Council's museum service.
The campaign, spearheaded by Stoke Row Parish Council, garnered significant support from local councillors, residents, businesses, and the Nettlebed Estate, which provided the majority of the funding. Valued at £1,300, the hoard represents a significant find, with local representatives emphasizing the community's strong response to calls for village benefit.
