The significant Medaram Jatara, a biennial tribal festival, commenced on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The festivities officially began with the sacred arrival of the tribal deity Saralamma from Kannapelly village to her platform in Medaram. This event initiates the four-day long jatara.
Prior to Saralamma's arrival, tribal priests had already completed the ceremonial installations of deities Pagididdaraju and Govindaraju on their respective sacred platforms, known as gaddelu. Govindaraju was brought from Kondai, and Pagididdaraju arrived from Ponugonda village.
Key government officials, including tribal welfare minister Adluri Laxman Kumar and panchayat raj minister Danasari Anasuya, participated in special rituals for Saralamma at Kannepally village. Following these rituals, priests escorted the deity to Medaram, where thousands of eager pilgrims awaited her arrival, welcoming her with traditional dances and drumbeats.
