Oscar-winning director Tom McCarthy, known for 'Spotlight,' is set to helm a new feature drama co-financed by Sony Classics. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Golden Globe nominee Paul Rudd, Golden Globe winner Evan Peters, Oscar nominees Amy Ryan and Paul Giamatti, and Emmy winners John Turturro and Tatiana Maslany.
Filming is scheduled to commence next month for this project, described as a "darkly comic drama." The movie draws inspiration from Nathaniel Rich's book 'Losing Earth.' Its narrative unfolds at a Florida beachside resort in 1980, where twenty experts convened for a weekend conference on the burgeoning issue of CO2 emissions and their environmental impact.
The adapted screenplay, credited to Thomas Bidegan, Noé Debré, and McCarthy himself, centers on a group of scientists, activists, and policymakers tasked by Congress with drafting a statement on climate action. This pivotal gathering occurred in 1980, marking an early moment in the global discourse on climate change. The film is dedicated to the late Steve Golin.
