Opera Singer's Secret Hearing Loss Shakes Stage

The psychological drama 'Maya Butterfly,' starring Jessica Reynolds and Charlotte Rampling, is now in production, with Wildcard handling U.K. and Irish distribution. Directed by Edwina Casey, the film centers on a gifted soprano secretly losing her hearing amidst the high-stakes opening week of a challenging opera. Principal photography is underway at the National Opera House in Wexford and Belfast.

Described as a fusion of 'Tár' and 'Sound of Metal,' the movie offers a first-person sensory experience of the singer's struggle. Developed with support from Screen Ireland, 'Maya Butterfly' aims to be a testament to modern, inclusive cinema. The production has received funding from Screen Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen, with plans for a cinema release next year.
