Welsh Actor Wants to Play Tom Jones in Biopic

Matthew Rhys, an Emmy-winning actor and star of the Apple TV+ series 'Widow's Bay,' has publicly expressed his ambition to portray Welsh music icon Tom Jones in a biopic. Rhys, originally from Cardiff, stated his eagerness to collaborate with Jones, who was knighted in 2006. He even humorously suggested 'It's Not Unusual' as a potential title for the film.

Sir Tom Jones, aged 85, boasts a career that has spanned six decades since he began performing in the 1960s. His early hits included 'It's Not Unusual,' 'What's New Pussycat,' and 'Delilah,' earning him the 1966 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. His music journey encompassed various genres, and he also hosted a successful television show, 'This Is Tom Jones.'

Jones experienced a career revival in his late 50s with the 1999 hit 'Sex Bomb' and later gained prominence as a judge on the UK's 'The Voice,' mentoring multiple winners. His personal life has been marked by his marriage to childhood sweetheart Linda, their son Mark, and a highly publicized period of infidelity. Despite this, he remained married to Linda until her passing in 2016.

Further highlighting his influential life, Jones developed a friendship with Elvis Presley in the 1960s, which continued until Presley's death. In recent years, speculation about a romantic relationship with Priscilla Presley emerged, which Jones has publicly refuted, stating they are simply good friends who enjoy dinners together.
