McConaughey's Family Affair: Son and Mother Star in Heroic Wildfire Film

In October 2025, Matthew McConaughey's latest film, "The Lost Bus," is set to hit theaters, and it has proven to be a family affair for the acclaimed actor. McConaughey's 17-year-old son, Levi, and his 93-year-old mother, Mary, have both landed roles in the movie, playing the character's son and mother, respectively.

The film is based on the real-life story of a heroic school bus driver who saved 22 children from one of the deadliest and most destructive wildfires in California history. McConaughey, who plays the lead role, has expressed his delight at working with his son and mother on the project.

"To have my mom here and my son here and be in the middle as a bridge of those generations doing something that became a career for me, that 1992 I didn't know if it was going to be a weekend hobby but turned out to be a career -- very cool," the Oscar-winning actor said.

McConaughey revealed that Levi landed the role on his own merit, without the benefit of his famous last name. The casting director initially sent the script to McConaughey, who then forwarded it to his son, who impressed the director enough to secure the part. The proud father also shared that he tried to offer Levi some guidance, but ultimately, the young actor handled the role with professionalism.
