Musician Matt Willis has launched a new three-part documentary series, 'Matt Willis: The Recovery Project', aimed at combating the stigma surrounding addiction, particularly concerning employment.
In the series, Willis establishes a business in South Wales, providing opportunities for individuals in different stages of addiction recovery. He highlights the substantial barriers those with a history of addiction encounter when seeking to rejoin the workforce, noting the significant gaps in their CVs.
Funding this ambitious project proved challenging, with traditional avenues falling short. Unexpectedly, McFly, former rivals of Willis's band Busted, agreed to perform a one-off fundraiser gig in Cardiff on March 22nd. This concert was crucial in raising necessary funds for the initiative.
Willis, who has been clean for nearly nine years after multiple rehab stints, describes his sobriety as a "miracle." He intends for the documentary and the business to be a UK-wide initiative, offering a pathway for recovery and a chance for those affected by addiction to rebuild their lives.
