Matt Smith's Delayed Arrival on 'Star Wars: Starfighter' Set Raises Questions
7 Nov
Summary
- Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor, has not yet been on the 'Star Wars: Starfighter' set
- Smith's late arrival, nearly half a year after filming began, raises questions about his screen time
- Smith's character is reportedly a villain, following his near-miss for a role in 'The Rise of Skywalker'

As of November 7th, 2025, Matt Smith, the actor who portrayed the Eleventh Doctor, has not yet set foot on the set of the upcoming 'Star Wars: Starfighter' film. This is surprising, as the movie's principal photography began nearly half a year ago, with lead actor Ryan Gosling and his young co-star Flynn Gray already filming their scenes.
The delay in Smith's arrival on the 'Star Wars: Starfighter' set has sparked questions about the extent of his involvement in the film. It is not uncommon for some actors to join a production later in the process, but the fact that Smith will be absent for such a significant portion of the filming schedule suggests that his role may be relatively limited.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Smith's character, it is known that he will be portraying a villain in the 'Star Wars' universe. This follows his near-miss for an undisclosed role in the previous installment, 'The Rise of Skywalker', which ultimately did not come to fruition.
The 'Star Wars: Starfighter' cast also includes Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams. Gosling's lead character will be tasked with protecting his young nephew, played by Gray, "against evil pursuers" in a story set half a decade after the events of 'The Rise of Skywalker'.
