The official cause of death for former Alaskan Bush People star Matt Brown has been revealed as suicide, according to the Okanogan County Coroner's Office. His family has been notified of these findings.
Brown's body was recovered from a river south of Oroville, Washington, on May 30, 2026, after he had been reported missing. Investigators located an individual floating face down, but swift river conditions hampered initial recovery efforts.
His brother, Noah Brown, identified the deceased, while another brother, Bear Brown, spoke about Matt's long-standing addiction struggles. Bear expressed surprise at a self-harm outcome, having feared an overdose instead.
Matt Brown was a cast member on the Discovery Channel series from 2014 to 2019. He passed away after his father, Billy Brown, who died in 2021 from cardiac arrest following a seizure.
Matt had previously spoken out in 2016 about his battle with alcohol addiction, noting he recognized he was spiraling and entered an inpatient rehabilitation program.
He is survived by his mother, Ami, his brothers Noah, Bear, Bam Bam, and Gabe, and his sisters Bird and Rain.
