In October 2025, Laurence Fishburne, the actor who portrayed Morpheus in The Matrix, shared a behind-the-scenes story about the film's now-iconic dojo fight scene. During a recent New York Comic Con panel, Fishburne reflected on the immense physical preparation that went into making the sequence one of the most celebrated moments in sci-fi history.

Fishburne revealed that the brutal fight choreography left both him and co-star Keanu Reeves, who played Neo, "literally black and blue" by the time they wrapped filming. The commitment to realism and authenticity in the action was so intense that the actors sustained real injuries, but Fishburne saw it as proof of their dedication to the groundbreaking project.

Fishburne's former co-star, Joe Pantoliano, who played Cypher in the original film, likened the fight choreography to "a ballet," explaining that the seamless flow and minimal cuts helped change the trajectory of action filmmaking.
