The first trailer for "Matchbox the Movie," starring John Cena, has been released by Apple TV+. The film, directed by Sam Hargrave, is inspired by Mattel's toy car line and features an ensemble cast including Jessica Biel, Arturo Castro, and Danai Gurira. It is set to begin streaming on October 9.
The movie follows a group of friends whose leader, Sean, played by Cena, is revealed to be a deep-cover CIA operative. Their ordinary lives are upended when they are drawn into a dangerous, worldwide mission involving a stolen nuclear warhead. The CIA suspects Sean and his associates, forcing the group to undertake a perilous mission to retrieve the bomb and clear their names.
"Matchbox the Movie" is produced by a team including David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger for Skydance, alongside Robbie Brenner and Ynon Kreiz for Mattel Studios. John Cena will also be seen in "Coyote vs. Acme" and Netflix's "One Attempt Remaining."
