Mastodon has unveiled their latest single, "Your Ghost Again," a track deeply resonant with the memory of their former guitarist, Brent Hinds. Hinds, a founding member, departed the band in March 2025 and tragically passed away in August 2025. This new single is the first Mastodon release since their 2024 track "Floods of Triton."
The song "Your Ghost Again" revisits the band's signature hypnotic, sludgy riffs reminiscent of their earlier albums, while the chorus features melancholic melodies. Lyrically, the track is a direct homage to Hinds, with drummer Brann Dailor sharing that he frequently felt Hinds' presence in the studio. Bassist Troy Sanders confirmed his lyrical contributions are dedicated to Brent.
With their 2026 album now complete, produced by Kurt Ballou, Mastodon is poised for a significant year. Leaks suggest a North American tour and a potential album title, "The Poisonous Weapons." There's speculation that the album may incorporate black metal influences, potentially featuring blast-beats from drummer Brann Dailor.
