Summary
- Martine Rose appointed creative director at Balenciaga.
- She replaces Pierpaolo Piccioli after 16 months.
- Rose's appointment is Kering's third leadership change recently.

Martine Rose, a celebrated British designer, has been appointed as the new creative director of Balenciaga. She succeeds Pierpaolo Piccioli, who held the position for 16 months. This significant change at the French luxury house is part of Kering's broader strategy to rejuvenate its brands.
The parent company, Kering, is experiencing a period of transition, with Rose's appointment being the third creative leadership shift in the past month. CEO Luca de Meo is focused on restoring growth, particularly after a slowdown that affected Gucci.
Rose, 45, founded her eponymous London label in 2007 and has a background in menswear. She previously spent three years at Balenciaga under Demna. Rose's designs draw inspiration from 1990s rave culture and street style.
Rose stated, "It is a true privilege to be appointed Creative Director of Balenciaga, a House with an extraordinary heritage and a fearless creative spirit." De Meo highlighted Rose's "connection to the new generation and her instinctive understanding of culture."
Piccioli's tenure, though brief, saw him attempt to steer the fashion house in a new direction. However, his designs received mixed critical reception. Kering is also seeking new creative directors for Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen.
