Martin Clunes' Dorset Farm Faces Land Dispute

Martin Clunes, known for his role in 'Wuthering Heights,' divides his time between acting and managing his extensive 130-acre farm estate in Dorset. The farm is the venue for the annual Buckham Fair, a fundraising event he co-owns with his wife Philippa Braithwaite. Since its inception in 2009, the fair has successfully raised more than £500,000 for various charities. The upcoming 2026 fair is scheduled to return to its original location on February 6, marking the first time since 2019.

However, Clunes' rural tranquility has been disrupted by an ongoing dispute with local neighbours since 2023. The actor and other residents are in opposition to plans by Theo Langton and Ruth McGill to establish a permanent residential traveller site on their land. Clunes has voiced concerns to the local council, asserting that the settlement negatively impacts the protected landscape. He disputes the classification of his neighbours as 'new age travellers,' emphasizing his commitment to protecting the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Despite the local conflict, Clunes expresses deep contentment with his farm life. He cherishes his connection to the land, the changing seasons, and the care of his diverse animals, including horses, cattle, sheep, and hens. He has stated it is his favorite place in the world and that he can go for weeks without leaving the property, always looking forward to returning home after his travels.
