Marta Kauffman Reinventing Sitcoms with Improv Comedy

Amazon has greenlit "DINKS," its first-ever multi-cam sitcom, from the acclaimed Marta Kauffman. This unique series, short for "dual income, no kids," is also set to be the first improvised multi-cam comedy. Paul Scheer and June Diane Raphael, a married couple in real life, will star alongside Jon Gabrus.

The production is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios, Lionsgate, and Publicis Media Content Innovation (PMCI). Notably, PMCI will fully finance the series, marking a departure from traditional television financing methods.

Kauffman, known for co-creating "Friends" and "Grace and Frankie," expressed excitement about reinventing the multi-cam format. The show's logline follows a couple renovating a house in the absence of marriage or children. Prime Video aims to add this fresh comedy to its slate, which includes other successful single-camera series.

"DINKS" represents a creative partnership model where studios, networks, and advertisers collaborate. This approach allows high-quality projects to move forward in a competitive landscape, with PMCI offering this exclusively to its clients. Scheer and Raphael bring extensive comedic experience, having previously worked with Kauffman and starred in various successful projects.
