In a recent interview, acclaimed actor Mark Ruffalo has shared an intriguing behind-the-scenes story about his work on the 2022 Netflix film The Adam Project. Ruffalo, known for his roles in the Avengers franchise and other high-profile projects, revealed that the unique punch technique he used to strike co-star Ryan Reynolds' character in the sci-fi comedy came to him in a dream.
"I had a dream that that's what the punch should look like, and I just did what I did in my dream," Ruffalo explained. The scene in question features a confrontation between Reynolds' character, a future version of Ruffalo's onscreen son, and Ruffalo's character. Ruffalo's character then responds with a balletic kick-punch that left the crew in stitches. "And we did it, and they were all laughing, and [director Shawn Levy's] like, 'Well, let's do it again, but I think we have it,'" Ruffalo recalled.
Ruffalo also reflected on his experience working on the 2010 comedy Date Night, which starred Steve Carell and Tina Fey. Ruffalo played a small but memorable role as a friend of the lead couple, and he was surprised by Carell's reaction to his limited part in the film. "I'll never forget when I walked in there, he was like, 'Man, why are you doing this? I can't believe you're doing this,'" Ruffalo said, recalling Carell's words.
