Her biological father is Nelson Sardelli, a Las Vegas entertainer. Hargitay first learned of Sardelli's identity when she was 25 and met him at age 30. Despite this revelation, Hargitay emphasizes her enduring love and connection to Mickey Hargitay, stating, "I'm Mickey Hargitay's daughter -- that is not a lie."

Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay, a former Mr. Universe, were a prominent Hollywood couple in the 1950s and 60s, marrying in 1958 and divorcing in 1964.
