Actress Marisa Abela has shared her experience with a thyroid cancer diagnosis, which she received at the age of 23. The discovery of a lump on her neck, coupled with unusual fatigue, prompted medical investigation, leading to the cancer identification. This occurred in 2020, the same year her breakout role in HBO's 'Industry' premiered, marking a pivotal moment as her career began to ascend.

Abela underwent an extensive eight-hour surgery to remove the cancerous tumor. This was followed by a course of radioactive iodine treatment. She has since been declared in the clear by medical professionals. However, Abela will require lifelong medication to manage her hormone levels, as she no longer has a functioning thyroid gland.
